Post-Chart Analysis:
There are 18 holes on a golf course and it’s ironic that keen golfer Lloyd Cole finds himself at number 18 for the third week running. Perhaps he should rename the track “Perfect Skins”. A number of new entries and re-entries at the bottom end of the chart, including an appearance from the single currently atop the Worst Scottish Single Top 10. The casualties from last week’s chart are Travis, the Bay City Rollers, Paolo Nutini, Middle of the Road, Camera Obcura, El Presidente and the Sensational Alex Harvey Band.
There’s a welcome appearance from Love and Money at number 47. Big movers this week are Simple Minds’ anthemic “Waterfront” and “Sparky’s Dream” by Teenage Fanclub (Mrs Cat will be pleased). Also a good week if your song has the word “miles” in brackets after the main title!
Still no sign of The Pastels, Superstar, Supernaturals or The Soup Dragons. The Belle and Sebastian fans, who mobilized so successfully to help the band win a Brit a few years ago, are also nowhere to be seen. If anyone knows a B&S forum where you don’t have to make 67 posts before you can start a thread, let me know. I'm surprised at so many of the bands who haven't made an appearance or have only flirted with the lower reaches of the chart. Travis, The Supernaturals and The Pastels are prime examples. The Pastels are getting a few votes but they're all for different Singles.
Personally, I'd like to see Camera Obscura in the Top 50 and some more Belle and Sebastian. Maybe they'll start mobilising like they did to win the Best New Group at The Brits a few years ago.
We're certainly getting some eclectic votes and I think our next Featured Voter is in that category. You'll see his votes on Sunday/Monday, when we also put the new chart up.

I lied, the new Featured Voter, Tom McPhillips, is already up.
The new chart will make an appearance on Monday after Dave gets over his jet lag/train lag! _________________ www.jocknroll.co.uk - The Great Jock 'n' Roll Album - Have You Voted? |
