As usual the BBC are trying to steer the British public into voting the people they are promoting such as Darren Clarke, Zara Philips etc but who do you think should win the prize? _________________ www.jocknroll.co.uk - The Great Jock 'n' Roll Album - Have You Voted?

Sports personality? A contradiction in terms surely?
Frankly I wouldn't vote for any of them, simply because none have a personality!
They are too worried about losing, mental preparation, focus and not offending anybody to show any hint of a personality which might differntiate them from the rest of the herd.
What has happened to the maverick, independent, free thinking sports person (Mohammed Ali, Ian Botham, James Hunt, Johan Cruyff)?
Oh silly me, they don't exist anymore because sports isn't sporting it's a big business worth millions, and business tycoons don't like people who rock the boat. |

Despite the title I always thought that Sports Personality of the Year was about achievement in the previous 12 months.
I read that Darren Clarke is somewhat embarrassed by the building sympathy vote. It's tragic that he lost his wife but, apart from being one of the 12 successful Ryder Cup players, what has he achieved in golf/sport this year.
Zara Philips: If anyone else had become a World Champion in an equestrian event you wouldn't have heard about it. But because it's a royal/celeb then the sycophantic BBC do their level best to promote their "favourites". Expect her to be second. Let's trot on.
I voted for Andy Murray because I think his rise to the Top 20 this year has been phenomenal. He's also been one of the few people to beat Roger Federer and you can't underestimate the magnitude of that achievement. Okay, some people see him as some kind of precocious brat but at least he has a bit of fire in his belly unless Tim-Nice-But-Dim.
Of course the Beeb's problem is that so much of the big sporting occasions are on channels other than their own and as a result the likes of Phil Taylor, Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe have suffered as a result. The BBC bitter? Nah!
I'll amend the poll above to show the final 10 nominees. _________________ www.jocknroll.co.uk - The Great Jock 'n' Roll Album - Have You Voted? |

Well, there you have it, the posh horse-faced ladee won, Darren Clarke was probably relieved to be second and Beth Tweddle must have the biggest extended family in the world to get third ahead of Calzaghe, Hatton and Murray.
By the way, Darren, if your new woman dressed you, you want to row her out! You looked like a stunt double for Simon Le Bon. _________________ www.jocknroll.co.uk - The Great Jock 'n' Roll Album - Have You Voted? |
