The snowdrops are out and Cabaret Voltaire is full of the joys of spring and slowly recovering from celebrating our second birthday! Thanks to all of you for your continued support. Here are a few highlights for the coming week. We hope to see you there. x
My Alamo, Spider Simpson, Mexicolas
1 March, £6
“Lean and lairy at the end of their first national tour, the quartet rock out with an infectious end-of-term glee, the poisonous hooks of their colossal songs ringing out loud and clear. Splicing keening melodies to coruscating noise, with a craftsman’s expertise for song-construction, My Alamo’s set bled with tunes that will indelibly stain your memories, brightly anthemic but with a satisfying dark undertow.
Their boundless, ****-it-all enthusiasm is infectious, new single ‘1994’ with its churning Sugar-meets-Alice-in-Chains chorus, and the heavy, metallic riffage of ‘I’m Not An Enemy’ (delivered with a venison-chewing crunch of which James Hetfield would approve) only two of the best from a strong set. The year’s almost done, but hipsters looking for the next big band of 2007 should seek out My Alamo. They’ve got the songwriting chops and on tonight’s evidence the raw rock agro to go all the way” Kerrang

Drive By Argument, Theatre Fall
3 March, £6
Thrown together at complete random for a band ‘project' in October 2004 – the five lads studied music at university – they hit it off and within months were auditioning for the T Break stage with their harmonious electro-pop antics.
Drive By Argument's influences are scattered and eclectic, exploring everything from The Cure to Kanye West, but on first listen what is apparent over anything is that these boys are Scotland's answer to The Faint, and they can play.
Boasting the sort of tight-knit sound you would expect of a band that's been at it a hell of a lot longer than them just as much, they excite as they entertain, but surely, this is only the beginning.

The Dykeenies, The Dials
5 March, £6
The acclaimed Glasgow outfit head east for one night only to put their scent down in Edinburgh, like a stray cat that gets in through an open window and pees on your couch. “Scotland’s biggest and best new band…a weird and utterly brilliant hybrid of The Killers and Panic at the Disco! Only they’ll probably end up bigger than both” NME
And now, a personal message from The Dykeenies: "The Dykeenies are Good! The Dykeenies Are 3 Brothers & 2 Friends That Are Good! The Dykeenies Formed In June 2005 A Month So Good! The Dykeenies Eat, Sleep & Breathe Music Which is Good! Be Good People & Good Things Will Happen, Like The Dykeenies!"
