Following on from The Scotsman's poll, here's a rather more eclectic selection from the excellent Is This Music?:
"The all-time top 100 scottish albums - as voted by readers of is thismusic?
Well, it was a long, hard-fought campaign. Emails and txts flooded in in their thousands, and the we saw the kind of voting patterns that would give Jon Snow palpitations. With such a vast pool of Scottish talent on display it was inevitable it’d be tight at the top, but eventually, Teenage Fanclub’s Grand Prix emerged as a clear winner, with 9.3% of the total vote, that’s a whole 1.6% ahead of its nearest rival.
We’ll not labour the 100 albums list here again, but here is the top 50 Scottish albums of all time, as voted by readers of is this music?
So we publish here the top 100 - with the 'bottom 50' included. This sees a few departures from the list of 100 nominated for the vote by our writers with several entries fained by votes from dissatisfied fans! Highest-placed is a second entry for Aereogramme - ‘Sleep and Release' is at 53, and extra entries from the likes of Belle and Sebastian, The Delgados and Teenage Fanclub have also arrived. But more significant are a few from bands completely and sadly neglected in the initial nominations. The Trashcan Sinatras - in fact one of our extra acts, in our top 110 show up at #61, and Green Peppers and Thee Moths are among the smaller acts who also crop up due to fan power, alongside Del Amitri and Deacon Blue (originally slated for our 100 but eventually the text to accompany Raintown was not forthcoming).
Just outside the hot 100 were Wet Wet Wet (yup, really!) and TFC's ManMade - not out for another month!
