Post-Chart Analysis from The Cat in the Stats Bunker:
Dave's having a lie down in a darkened room as he's having "one of his heads". So this week's inane chart-based ramblings are by The Cat.
As the votes continue to pour in like rain in Manchester, we've built a conservatory on to the chart and we're now at a Top 75. I won't get any bigger (boy, do I know that feeling).
As a result there are no casualties from last week's chart with 14 newcomers and one re-entry joining last week's Top 60. Highest new entry is Edwyn Collins, president-elect of an independent Scotland (if we had our way), and he's joined by a veritable cornucopia of caledonian crooners in the shape of Billy Mackenzie, Paul Quinn, Annie Lennox and Paolo Nutini.
Big climbers are The Sensational Alex Harvey Band's "Next", which would have been even higher had some of their fans read the rules (tsk!), Del Amitri's "Waking Hours" and The Waterboy's "Fishermans' Blues".
Big Country have taken over the top spot from the Jesus and Mary Chain, although this chart is anything but a two-horse race. The Blue Nile now have two albums in the Top 10, which isn't really a shock.
I'm off for a spot of lunch and a lick of my furballs.
Some fruit, a few nuts...double apple pie and custard.

Quick analysis of the charts this week - apologies for the gap but was in the wilds of Kintyre last week.
Most common decade is once more the 80s with 38 out of the 75, next are the 90s with 18, followed by the 00s with 13 and 70s with 5 and a 60s 1.
Noteably the enlargement of the chart means an improvement for more recent albums in that the 00s raised their percentage rep the most
We now have a tie for the most prominent individual year with 1984, 1987 and 1989 with 7
Three years now have 4 examples 1982, 2004 and 2006.
There's now a run of years between 1978 and 2000 where there is at least one album from each of them - except for 1993.
BTW like the featured voters choice |
