Good afternoon folks
We all know how the working week can drag on...so we thought we'd lighten the load and send you some upcomimg gig and club highlights for the rest of the month to take your mind off the serious stressy stuff. See you soon x

TONIGHT: Spies in the Wires: The Futureheads DJ Set
with Jay Sin! (Art of Parties, Glasgow Art School), Tim + Christo (Tinderbox, Red Vodka Club)
11-3am, £1.50 drinks
£5/4 students on the door
Now second Thursday of every month.
“A hi-NRG bash for nu-dance and electro-rave aficionados” NME Spies in the Wires returns to Cabaret Voltaire after a cheeky holiday. Tonight our guests on the decks include The Futureheads and Jay Sin! (from Glasgow Art School’s Art of Parties night) plus Tim and Christo (I Fly Spitfires/Pivo/Costume Party at Wee Red Bar) www.myspace.com/spiesinthewires
Split – Now We Are Four
Tuesday 13th March
11pm – 3am Free, all night, for everyone
Split celebrates its fourth birthday with a massive party. Expect sets from all your favourite Split DJs, plus a few bonus guests and some surprises too. Ever since it first arrived four years ago, Split has been a phenomenally successful night, packed out with contented clubbers week after week after week.
The DJs at Split are pooled from such sources as Access, Fatmess, Fresh Air FM, plus members of city collectives Shadowskillz and Edinburgh Bassed. Between them all, they offer two rooms of top-quality sounds covering the cream of new releases, plus classic floor-filling tracks too.
Despite being a night that could easily transfer to a weekend slot and have no problem charging for entry and still filling up, Split sticks to its founding principles and refuses sell out - it's strictly a Tuesday night affair, and it's always free, all night, for everyone. Hats off to it.
We Are ... Electric with Damian Lazarus, Gary Mac, Reachout
Wednesday 14th March
11pm – 3am
£2 after midnight/Free before midnight/Free to members all night
As the man behind the genre-setting and massively-popular Futurism compilations, Damian Lazarus delivers a fresh and unique sound best described as dirty and deep electro house - a rebel sound designed for lovers of late-night madness, future dancefloor classics and cutting edge new ideas.
As former Head of A&R for UK based label City Rockers, Lazarus divided his time between signing and developing the next wave of future bands/artists and spinning the most vibrant new tunes to like minded clubbers. He is responsible for signing and releasing classics like Felix's Silver Screen, Tiga's Sunglasses and Coloursound's Fly With Me. When he hits the decks, Damien’s DJ sets are designed for good time partyheads - his style combines the most upfront twisted music with a touch of attitude.
Catch him at We Are … Electric and see for yourself. Among the guests to have visited We Are … Electric so far are FC Kahuna, Felix Da Housecat, Patrick from M.A.N.D.Y, Booka Shade, who played an amazing live set, Bryan Black, Andrew Weatherall, Padded Cell and Black Strobe – basically, the cream of the today's cutting-edge, underground music-makers.

Howling Bells and Saint Jude's Infirmary
15 March, £8.50
“At least twice, Juanita Stein asks for the lights to be lowered.”Can we have some spooky red lights?" she asks, kittenishly. "It's way too bright." Really, though, she needn't have bothered: Howling Bells seem to bring their own glowering shadows in which to skulk. Part of the rich tradition of Australian gothic, they have a perfect, brooding poise, matched with unfeasible good looks. Stein has the perfect foil in her brother, supremely inventive guitarist Joel: she sways a little behind her guitar, everything focussed though her voice; he jolts and wheels in sudden bursts of electricity. Sometimes he and bassist Brendan Picchio provide off-kilter harmonies that bow through the songs like a haunted breeze.” The Guardian www.howlingbells.com
Access
With special guest Luke Slater
Friday 16th March
11pm – 3am
£10 on the door
Luke Slater drops into Access for a rare Edinburgh date on the decks. Access mainman Pyz will be dropping the vinyl bombs too. There's little any fan of electronic music can do or say to challenge the fever that surrounds revered techno pioneer Luke Slater. Almost like an enfant terrible to the scene, he's constantly producing and performing music that remains beyond all things relevant and above all things refreshing. And that's no mean feat to still be breathing life into soundsystems the globe over, having had his foot in the musical waters for almost 27 years now.
Luke is one of the creators of the UK/Detroit techno marriage, blending the intensity of techno's hardest funk and minimal flavours with the sweet swagger and chunky bristle of a fat street party. While always returning under his own moniker, his releases under the aliases Slots For Bill, 7th Plain, The, Clementine, Deputy Dawg, L.B. Dub Corp, Lloyd Owes Me A Packet, Morganistic, Offset, Planetary Assault Systems, Translucent, Heamaglobien, Machine, Re-Animator, and Spinach have packed out dancefloors the world over. And now he’s coming to Cabaret Voltaire.
I Was A Cub Scout, Edgar Prais
18 March, £5
Indie punk electronica; Postal Service vs Digital Ash-esque Conor Oberst. “I Was A Cub Scout are the reason god invented keyboards...The band, a two-man collection from Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, is a rousing, rambunctious package of disco-pop joy, wrapped in punk-rock language and indie electronica.” Drowned in Sound www.myspace.com/iwasacubscout
Afterdark with DJ Roo (Dusted), Neil Bartley, Jammy and Andy Christie
Saturday 17th March
11pm -3am £10/£8 concessions on the door
After his amazing set on New Years Eve, Afterdark would be mad not to get DJ Roo back. As resident of London night Dusted and producing under his Celler Dweller guise his funky, big beat, electro house style is complimented with the occasional obscure track that defines hi electric sound. DJ Roo joins residents Neil Bartley and Jammy in the Main Room, while Andy Christie lays deep house and twisted tech beats in the Room Two.
My Awesome Compilation, Orko – over 16s show
19 March, £6.50
MAC completed recording their eagerly awaited first full length album 'Actions' with Larry Hibbitt (Hundred Reasons Guitarist/Songwriter) in 2005. It hit the shops on August 8th, spawning 3 singles 'Put Up A Fight', 'Set To Go' and 'Awake'. The videos were played on Kerrang, MTV2, Scuzz, local and national radio. 'Put Up A Fight' was also featured on the Saints Row video game and on the Big Brother 6 series in Australia.

MAC toured heavily during 2004-06 in the UK rocking it hard with many top acts including; A, Capdown, Reel Big Fish, Fightstar, Fall Out Boy, MC Lars, Hopesfall, Reggie & The Full Effect, Jackson United & Alkaline Trio and have performed at the Download, Truck and Pukkelpop Festivals. In March/April '06 MAC toured Japan and then Australia (w/ Funeral For A Friend).

So after being locked up in the practice room for the past 6 months working on the 2nd full length album, MAC will release 2 BRAND NEW tracks on March 26th through top indie label Gravity DIP offering a taste of what's to come from the follow-up to 'Actions'.

The main track 'Let's All Have A Disco' was previewed at MAC's December shows at the end of last year. 'Save Yourself' has never been played live and is completely new and something a little bit different. Both tracks will be available for download at itunes and Napster and also on limited edition 10" vinyl. The vinyl will also feature 2 tracks from the mighty Scottish quartet 'Orko'.

Underground Heroes
20 March, £5
Full throttle punk infused indie that will blow you away if you can stand still long enough. “The energy and enthusiasm the boys put into the performance showcase everything that is good with the music scene at the moment. They are a band that play with such uninhibited vigour that you can not help but want to hear more from them. Spitting water, climbing onto bars, cocky acceptance of adulation. What else can you ask from a new band? ‘Alright Darlin’ is a shouty, demanding song that forces you to sing along even though you have never heard the words before. They reel off enough first rate songs to fill a debut album and then some.” Gigwise.

Tiny Dancers and Glasvegas
21 March, £6
Fresh from touring with Larrikin Love and The Spinto Band, “Tiny Dancers' sound is a glistening mix-up of country, Sheffield blues, Brian Jones-era Stones, and Beatlesque rock and roll. There's a little bit of Neil Young's creaking sadness coursing through their melodies, and a touch of Flaming Lips silliness when they play live. Having seen them in the city since, it seems like they've fallen from a far-off 1950s planet of gems and magic dust; fully formed, but still containing the budding threat to grow into something special. For now, though, they're simply a band that is totally noticeable, shattering in full colour against England's sometimes exciting, but usually gritty and grey alternative musical backdrop.” Pop Matters
