The Great Jock ‘n’ Roll Album Poll from www.jocknroll.co.uk

NEWSLETTER No 1

The New, “New Improved” Website

When www.jocknroll.co.uk was born it had been put together with bits of rusty car exhausts, old juice bottles and stuck together with sticky back plastic (the A-Team have nothing on us). Our good friend Al took pity on us and has helped us to give the site a spring clean. We’ve been to IKEA, painted the walls in a lovely shade of terracotta and sprinkled the site liberally with pot pourri. Welcome to the new, new improved www.jocknroll.co.uk.

The Albums Poll Starts Now (1 April 2007)

Following the success of the Great Jock ‘n’ Roll Singles poll, we have, quite naturally, decided to move on to the Albums. We know The Scotsman newspaper did a similar poll in 2003 but that list was chosen by a panel of experts. Our poll will be decided by the kids, Joe and Josephine Bloggs, the general public, the hoi polloi….YOU!! THE ALBUM POLL IS NOW OPEN. We can’t promise to drive you to the ballot boxes or reduce your taxes but we will treat all your votes with the utmost respect…well, unless it’s for The Krankies! Get voting!!

Discussion Forum

You’re all cordially invited to take part in our ever-increasing Discussion Forum. All the deep political issues of the day are discussed, such as “How do you sort your record collection?”, “Which band have you seen the most?” and “Just when did Simple Minds become pish?” Feel free to add you voice to the debates. Bring your own bottle and join the pool flyer in the Les McKeown Lounge. You can also use the Forum to publicise your favourite band or even your own group in the Publicity section. But remember, no spitting, scratching or gouging, two falls, two submissions or a knockout decides the winner.

Our Charts

The current Jock ‘n’ Roll Album chart
The current Worst Jock ‘n’ Roll Album chart
Top 100 Jock ‘n’ Roll Singles (the final results from our recent poll, in which you voted)
Top 30 Worst Scottish Singles (as above)
Assorted Stats from the Singles poll

Pop Pourri Blog

Every day or so we’ll update the Pop Pourri blog with updates on the site, details of any press we’ve had and any other vignettes of information we think you’ll find interesting. We even name check some of you voters. Talking of the press, so far the site has featured in the following media: The List, Product magazine (we’re still looking for a copy, if anyone has one), Daily Mail, The Express, The Sun, The Daily Record, The Times, Evening Times, BBC6 Music, Forth One, Radio Scotland and Moray Firth Radio. Well, those are the ones we know of. If you heard about us anywhere else do let us know so we can inflate our egos even more.

I Know Someone Who Knows Someone Who Hasn’t Voted Quite Yet

Everyone who has received this newsletter has voted in some shape or form but perhaps you know someone who would also be interested in sending us his or her votes. Feel free to pass this newsletter on to them.

Votes from bands (and Z-list celebrities) are always welcome and you can vote for one of your own Albums (some of them already have in the Singles poll – no names mentioned as we don’t kiss and tell!)

Rules Reminder

Send us your Top 10 Scottish Albums (only one per artist)*
One nomination for Worst Scottish Album (don’t just specify an artist, pick an Album)
Any comments/memories you feel like adding on your choices (see our Featured Voters on the website for an example)
Your name
Where you’re from (Where you’re at!)
Where you heard about www.jocknroll.co.uk

*Note: Whilst we would like 10 choices, as long as you make at least 5 eligible selections we’ll accept your votes. There are some exceptions (e.g. no Greatest Hits) so check out the How To Vote page to see who you can and can’t vote for. We reserve the right to change the rules because someone will undoubtedly think of something that we haven’t. As with the Singles poll you can vote for a band and it’s solo offshoots e.g. Orange Juice/ Edwyn Collins/Malcolm Ross, Aztec Camera/Roddy Frame etc

We’ll only be sending out this newsletter once in a blue moon (if that) and only then if we have something to announce. If you really don’t want another newsletter let us know and we’ll remove you from the mailing list. We’re good that way you see and we won’t be too upset.

By the way, if you see any mistakes on the site, whether it be spelling, grammar or omissions, feel free to let us know. We won’t take offence, honest.

Thanks to everyone who has voted so far and for all the kind words we’ve received about the site. We even forgive the few individuals who have been less than charitable about our humble efforts, because that’s part of what makes us so special.

Slainte! Laughing

Please note the new website won't go up until this weekend (hopefully) as I'm still applying some WD40 to some of the joints!

You have got to be joking! The Associates? Absolute shite. What about Frankie Miller or Alex Harvey not to mention Nazareth. I also notice that Runrig do not appear in your album list which does not say much for the musical appreciation of your contributers Evil or Very Mad

One man's meat is another man's Quorn sausage.

It's all about opinions and you can only change it with votes. All the people you have mentioned have received votes.

Nicely argued! The Associates are absolute shite? Good point. Played Party Fears Two tonight to check. No; still sounds even better than almost anything ever to me and to a lot of others judging by the singles poll.

So vote for Miller and Harvey, great singers (as was Billy of the Associates) A guy I used to work with who roadied for SAHB tells a great story about Harvey and Miller bumping into each other in a Glasgow pub and enjoying more than a single babycham together

That said I've always thought both Nazareth and Runrig were mince! I'll count their votes but no way I'd ever listen to that stuff by choice.

Oh and it's contributors not contributers.

And are there two g's in bugger off? Laughing
