One of the most controversial exclusions from our poll is AC/DC. Do you think they should have been included? _________________ www.jocknroll.co.uk - The Great Jock 'n' Roll Album - Have You Voted? |

Well, that's the conundrum. There were three Young brothers who were born in Scotland and two of them feature prominently in the early life of the band. Also, Bon Scott was born in Scotland.
However, because they spent most of their life in Australia and the other members are Australian, many people regard them as Australian.
Some people have argued that they should be included in the poll. We would like to know what everyone else thinks.

| I defer to my friend, Brent..."There should be a "band member named 'Angus' clause...." From the SoCal point of view, then, doesn't get more Scottish than having an Angus in the pile. |

A very valid point, my furry friend.
Dave and I shall sit down with a frisky little Chardonnay, digest and cogitate the facts before deciding that Brent ramblings are those of a madman and dismiss them out of hand. What do you think Dave? _________________ www.jocknroll.co.uk - The Great Jock 'n' Roll Album - Have You Voted? |

Seconded Mr Cat! This Brent cove is evidently fond of Rawk Music rather than 80s stuff which all true jock n rollers know to be the way. Pass me another exotic cheerot and throw another version of For those about to Rock on the flaming fire. There's a good fellow!
Incidentally to the best of my knowledge there is no one in the current top 50 or the forthcoming Top 75 called Angus. That's to the best of my knowledge. Mr Cat may know different. |

| In the entire Top 75, not ONE Angus?!?!?! and you dare exclude AC/DC? I shall share your Angus-hatred with Brent. He might be at peace with it. Maybe. |

Looking forward to visiting here a lot!
You should be aware that this issue as about precedent setting for a substantial number of Scottish Australians.
All three top charting Australian songwriters were born in Glasgow.
1. The Young Brothers - aka AC/DC
2. Jimmy Barnes - not so well known in Scotia
3. Colin Hay - from men at work
and of course there's that ongoing dispute about Eric Bogle.

Hi
Don't want to get a rep for being a pedant on the site - and please do go and look that word up before burning me at the stake for kiddywinks - but...
The Young Brothers didn't feature just in the early years of Acka Dacka, but in their most productive middle years too; Angus on lead and pretending to be a kid; Malcolm on rhythm [gretsch too, yummmy]; and George[i think] on production duties.
Also Bon Scott died [both officially and conspiratorially] just round the corner from my bit in Brixton. so did Rory Gallagher, who I reckon wasn't scottishat all, at all.
best wishes

You'll go a long way before you're as pedantic as The Cat. We embrace pedantry wholeheartedly on this site. It's what makes us so special.
There were a number of controversial inclusions (Big Country, Franz Ferdinand) and exclusions (Rod Stewart. KLF) but AC/Dc is the one that caused the most consternation.
We appreciate what you're saying Drew but I'm happy with the conclusions we came to as to who to allow or disallow. Besides controversy is good for debate!! _________________ www.jocknroll.co.uk - The Great Jock 'n' Roll Album - Have You Voted? |
