19-22 Dec 06

Well, it’s almost time for Dave and The Cat to take a well-earned seasonal break. We’d like to wish everyone who has voted or dropped by a very Merry Christmas and a fabulous new year. We’ll be back in the New Year with more inane ramblings, stats and alcohol-induced frivolity. In the meantime, there will be an end-of-term Top 150 for you all to muse over. We may even be able to get our heads around the new version of the site which were trying to put up!!

18 Dec 06

You wait ages for a pop star then two come along at once. Following on from Joe McAlinden, Mr Jock ‘n’ Roll himself Edwyn Collins popped by Jock ‘n’ Roll HQ to say “Hello”. We’re glad to say that his recovery is going well. Visit his MySpace site for regular reports on how he is doing. God bless you Edwyn. On a momentus day for the site we also passed the 10,000 hits barrier.

15-17 Dec 06

This weekend marks the fifth anniversary of the passing of Stuart Adamson. Irrespective of what you think of the music he made there is no denying his contribution to the world of music via The Skids and Big Country. I chose to blast Fields of Fire (400 Miles) on Saturday afternoon and I enjoyed every minute of it.

11-14 Dec 06

Another pop star vote in as Joe McAlinden, who has been in every band except The Beatles, sent us his choices. Yes, he picked one of his own but that’s allowed. Dave and I said it wouldn’t happen (we had our fingers crossed) but the chart of Sunday 24 December will be either a Top 100 or a Top 200 but just for the festive period. Hopefully by the time we return in the new year, the new site will be up and running, hangover permitting. Over 9500 and we should reach the magic 10000 figure before Christmas and it’s all down to you, and you, and, yes, you too.

9 Dec 06

Your favourite website is featured in a small piece in The Times’ “The Knowledge” magazine today. Unfortunately they make of the mistake of thinking that My Bloody Valentine are a Scottish band. Oops!! We also received an e-mail informing us of an excellent website dedicated to the Scottish beat groups and rock bands of the 60s and 70s. If that’s your bag, man, then jive along to the Rocking Scots website.

6-8 Dec 06

Another busy week at Jock ‘n’ Roll HQ as the votes continue to pour in. We’ve also discovered an excellent site dedicated to Win, The Fire Engines and Nectarine No 9. We’ve added a link on the Links page and we highly recommend it. Our good friend Al has been working hard on our revamped super-duper site and we’ll be changing to that soon, which will be no matter what browser you use you’ll be able to see the site in all it’s glory.

5 Dec 06

8500 hits and we’ve “rocketed” to number 74 position in the Scottish website chart. We’re on the gravy train. We’ve enlisted the help of our good friend Al who is having a look at the site and sorting it out for us. He knows what he’s doing and we don’t!!

4 Dec 06

Following The Cat’s appearance on “Macaulay and Co” on Radio Scotland last Thursday he heard from his father-in-law that a couple of other Radio Scotland programmes had mentioned jocknroll.co.uk. The Cat tuned in via their Listen Again facility and the site was indeed discussed on “Scotland Live”. Kirsty Regan (Newsdirect) joined Stuart Cosgrove and host Shareen Nanjiani in assessing our poll. Kirsty quite rightly pointed out that the press had concentrated on the Worst chart instead of the Best, whilst Stuart bemoaned the lack of Perth bands, especially The Uruguayans’ “Under Your Spell” (“Who?” - The Cat). He wasn’t happy that The Associates, from Dundee, were leading the way in the Best Chart. He also commented that “Party Fears Two” was only leading because it had been voted for by “400 musos”. We look forward to Stuart’s own votes in due course!

1-3 Dec 06

Almost 8000 hits and we're "bubbling under" the Top 75 Scottish Websites chart at 76. Our friend Al has kindly stepped into the breach to sort out some of our technical problems. The site will look different when it's all be tidied up and you should be able to view it properly no matter which browser you news. The site also got the briefest of mentions in the Evening Times last week. Fame, fatal fame.

28-30 Nov 06

We're famous at last. On St. Andrew's Day we're featured in the Daily Mail, Daily Express and in The Sun. The Worst Top 20 gets a rundown (in a Top of the Pops kind of way) on Forth One's Breakfast Show. We've also been invited on to the Fred MacAulay show on Radio Scotland tomorrow morning. The Cat will be live by satellite from his office–just don't tell the boss!

27 Nov 06

We received an e-mail today entitled "Worst Website Ever"! It seems that anyone viewing this site via Safari or Firefox, which I'll admit I've never heard of, is seeing a bit of a mess. Whilst I'm sorry about that neither Dave nor myself (Dave knows less than me and I know nothing) have the capabilities to fix it. We like to think of the site as being "punk". We loved it to be all singing and all dancing but I just can't see it happening.

23-26 Nov 06

A new featured voter in Barrie Francis from Cardiff, who heard about us through the unofficial Fall website. We've gone past the 7000 hits mark and are now in the Top 80 Scottish Websites.

18-22 Nov 06

What an interesting few days at Jock 'n' Roll HQ. We had another avalanche of votes with many coming from various corners of the globe: Seattle, San Francisco, Columbus, Adelaide, Athens and Dunfermline amongst others. We've also had our first vote from an MSP (that's Member of Scottish Parliament for those who don't know). Now if I can just get Mrs Cat to vote...

14-17 Nov 06

After a bad couple of days The Cat is back and fighting fit. McGoogle or YaTube haven't offered to buy us out yet but we live in hope.

13 Nov 06

You'll find a whole load of new bands added to the Artists list thanks to Michael Train who sent us a copy of his Scottish New Wave Discography 1977-1984. One of the bands listed is Dreamboys, who included none other than actor Peter Capaldi. Anyway, I must go and see if Amazon has got any Scrotum Poles EPs left!

12 Nov 06

Our first Top 75 is up on site as well as an all new chart to find the top Scottish Singles Artist of All Time (well for this week anyway). It's based on a secret formula that involves taking away the number you first thought of. That's as much as I can say. I'm off to board up the windows before the Idlewild/Roddy Woomble fans get here!!

11 Nov 06

I hear that Deacon Blue recently played a gig in Kilmarnock Prison. The first person to mention "captive audience" or "criminal records" will be sent to the naughty chair.

10 Nov 06

Following the advice from Web User magazine, we've got the feather duster out, been to IKEA and done a spring clean of the site. Keep your feet off the seats, I've just cleaned those, and white drinks only.

8-9 Nov 06

Some more possible coups that we can't say anything about just yet. Also a review of the website in Web User magazine–thanks for that.

5-7 Nov 06

News of a possible coup for the site but we don't want to say too much just now. We're up to 86th in the Top 100 Scottish website chart. We've added a poll on the discussion forum about whether we should expand our own chart to a Top 75.

4 Nov 06

They said she had neigh chance but beware because Horse's army of fans is on the march. Horse is personally rallying her troops and this pleases Dave and I immensely. (By the way Horse, when are we getting our registrations for your site activated?)

3 Nov 06

Those groovy kids at the Vinyl Villains Blogspot, have dedicated their site to Jock 'n' Roll this week. They've even added mp3s of their own Top 10 choices. Go over and have a look before they get thrown in jail. Don't worry guys, we'll have a benefit gig to raise your bail money!

2 Nov 06

We've actually fallen down 1 place in the Top 100 Scottish Websites. Rather worryingly we've been taken over by VomitScotland.com!!

30 Oct-1 Nov 06

Paul Livingston of the Trashcan Sinatras has voted, albeit protesting vociferously at the exclusion of AC/DC. We've now added a poll about it on the Discussion Forum. An updated Worst Singles chart is in place too. We've also had a plug on Moray Firth radio which we thank them for, from the heart of our bottoms.

27-29 Oct 06

Chop, chop, busy, busy, work, work, bang, bang. This week's new Top 50 is almost upon us and Dave is beavering away in the Stats Bunker.

26 Oct 06

Two votes for 60s band The Athenians in the space of 10 minutes!! One is from Lenny Helsing of The Thanes (thanks for all the info) and the other is from The Cat's father-in-law John, the oldest swinger in town!

25 Oct 06

More pop star votes as Barry McLeod, singer and guitarist with The Incredible Blondes, visits our polling booth. We've also passed the 4000 hits mark.

22-24 Oct 06

Alan Woodhouse from the NME has cast his votes, as has someone who we THINK is a well-known singer in a well-known Scottish band but we're not sure yet (and if it's who we think it is they haven't voted for their own band!!). We're now stalking them to find out. Up to 92 in the Top 100 Scottish Websites chart.

20-21 Oct 06

Many people have asked us for the closing date for the poll but we don't really have one as yet. It'll certainly be running until the end of the year. We want to make sure it gets round as many people as possible. The last thing you want is people saying "I wish I'd known about it"! Also, added a new Memories page for some of the most memorable recollections from our voters.

19 Oct 06

We have a new Featured Voter in the shape of Tom McPhillips, originally from Glasgow's South Side, now residing in Llanelli, South Wales. Have a look at his eclectic choices. Up to 93.

18 Oct 06

The List, Scotland's leading events guide, has given us a nice plug in their news section. The new chart won't be up until Monday lunchtime because Dave's been on his holidays.

17 Oct 06

Surprised and delighted to receive votes from Richard Coulthard, the brainchild behind the fabulous Waaah record label. "Caveman" by The Orchids, which I voted for, is now disallowed as it was on a mini-LP and not an EP. Back to the drawing board for me.

16 Oct 06

3000 hits and we're up to 95 in the Top 100. Added The Incredible Blondes to the Artists and Links pages, who I have to say I was ignorant of before. I only found out because my friend Giselle voted for them. Votes received from esteemed journalist Archie MacGregor, who does the Scottish football for The Times.

15 Oct 06

We've made it to number 100 in the Scottish Websites Top 100!! Also done some more housekeeping about the site. The misleading "Singles" pages have been more accurately re-named "Artists". We've also added a superb-doper Discussion Forum.

14 Oct 06

I'd like to pass on my condolences to the family of singer Jenny Moss who passed away in Dunfermline recently. As well as starring in Corrie for 14 years she also recorded a great Joe Meek-produced single in 1963 called "Hobbies". RIP Jenny.

13 Oct 06

Many thanks to the individual who provided me with an mp3 of The Fun Four's "Singing In The Shower". Gawd bless you guv'nor, you know who you are. Following a stutter we're moving in the right direction, up to 103 now.

12 Oct 06

Some very eclectic voting coming in, which is very welcome. We now have a small queue of Featured Voters lined up for the coming weeks. Stalling at 105.

11 Oct 06

We have a new featured voter in Douglas Cumming from Crookston in Glasgow. Up to 105 in the Top 100 Scottish Websites. We've also had a mention on the Scottish Television website too. Our fame is spreading.

10 Oct 06

Apparently the poll was mentioned in the Daily Record last Thursday. Up to 107 now, just "bubbling under" the Top 100.

9 Oct 06

An Extraordinary Emergency Meeting of the Eligibility Sub-Committee was held and the motion was carried to allow "Song To The Siren" by This Mortal Coil, as it was basically Liz and Robin from the Cocteau Twins (plus John Fryer) and they're both Scots. Up to 108 now as we pass the 2000 hits barrier.

8 Oct 06

Grant Stott on Radio Forth gives the site a good plug, as the Scottish nation wakes up with a collective hangover following the victory over the French. Promised you a miracle, indeed. Up to 111 now. Another plug from Andrew Collins too.

7 Oct 06

The fans of one particular band, who shall remain nameless (for the moment), are still having trouble getting to grips with the rules. They continue to vote for one individual track or simply for their band. It's not hard, it's not rocket science. Up to 115 now.

6 Oct 06

Owen Paul's brother John McGee has voted and not surprisingly he's chosen his brother's big hit along with his other brother Brian, who was in Simple Minds and Unfinished Business!! Up to 119 now, ahead of "Shopping for girls–lesbo life in edinburgh", which I'm never done reading!

5 Oct 06

We have now expanded the chart to a Top 50 but it won't get any bigger, honest. We'll try, acts of god willing, to have a new chart up every Monday night. Just don't put money on it. Secret midweek chart, anyone? Up to 125 now.

4 Oct 06

More celebrity votes as writer Martin Millar and The Orchids frontman James Hackett cast their votes. (No, James didn't vote for his own band!) Up to 130 now.

3 Oct 06

A milestone is reached as we pass 1000 hits. We've also gone up to 133 in the Top 100 Scottish Websites chart! Thanks to www.jockrock.org for the plug. Grant Stott (Radio Forth) is giving the site a plug on his Sunday show during his "Tartan Trio" feature.

2 Oct 06

New "Chart and Stats" page unveiled. Also, a new Featured Voter in East Kilbride's very own Joyce Gibson. Have a look at what she picked and what she said about her choices.

30 Sept 06

Forgot to mention another famous voter in Duglas T Stewart of seminal (I always think that sounds medical) Scottish popsters the BMX Bandits.

29 Sept 06

This website is 138 (with a bullet) in the Top 100 Scottish Websites, compiled by www.firstfoot.com! We're "bubbling under" as they say in the chart business.

28 Sept 06

A Scottish writer, who shall remain nameless, said he couldn't be bothered to write out of an e-mail of 10 choices. How did he ever get any of his (rather bloody excellent) books written?

27 Sept 06

Dave sees Irvine Welsh, John Collins and Geoff Hurst at the airport and tries to get their votes. (Stop Press: He doesn't!)

26 Sept 06

Tom Conway of Cambridge like The Krankies, a lot!

25 Sept 06

The first celebrity votes are in and they're from officially the nicest man in the music business, Andrew Collins of BBC6music. Andrew is a DJ, author, bird feeder and bon viveur, probably. He'll also be giving us a plug on his show on Sunday afternoon on BBC6music.

24 Sept 06

www.jocknroll.co.uk is born

8 May 07 - 46 With A Bullet

It's been a while since we updated you all with our progress up the Scottish Website chart as provided by www.firstfoot.com. Whilst I still think we should be a lot higher our total of almost 24000 hits has taken us to 46th place, just a baw hair behind the "This Is Not 1966" website.

7 May 07 - Bank Holiday

Bank holidays, local holidays, publc holidays, holidays in the sun, Saturday service on the horse and cart, what is the world coming to? Still I suppose it gives me more time to open our fan mail (knickers again, they'll be for Dave to keep his head warm) and respond in flowery prose. If any of you are going to see Ray Davies (forget Paul Weller, Ray's the real Modfather) tonight in Edinburgh do say hello. Of course, you won't know what I look like so do say hello to everyone you meet. You'll get to me eventually. I shall be wearing spats, a smoking jacket and carrying a bichon frisse called Edwyn.

6 May 07 - Q for Quite Rubbish

I used to subscribe to Q magazine but then it got a bit bland and samey so I binned it. The current issue has a free Quiz book and I was suckered into to buying it as my "holiday read". Boy was I disappointed as it turns out that Q has got even worse than I remembered it. Lists, lists and more lists. It's like a Caramel Wafer that's been left in the fridge and when you come to eat it all the chewiness has gone and it just snaps and crumbles. There's just no substance to it. Using Q's own star ratings I wouldn't even give it 1 out of 5. Very poor.

5 May 07 - The Cat's on the Telly!

If you ever wondered what The Cat looks like then you'll soon get your chance - assuming you're not one of those poor souls who only has cooncil telly.

The Cat, along with trusty sidekick Mrs Cat, can be seen on the Challenge channel quiz show "Take It Or Leave It" on Tuesday 15th May at 9pm and an hour later on Challenge +1. If anyone has a DVD recorder we'd appreciate it if you could copy it for us.

I won't spoil the result but do remember that those TV cameras put about two stone on you!!

4 May 07 - Never Mind The Trossachs...

The Cat is back and he's older, if not wiser. Statsmeister Dave has been working like a whirling dervish in The Cat's absence as the votes continue to make their way into our overflowing ballot boxes. No cock-ups here - this is one election where you can trust the result.

By the way, a wee plug for friend-of-the-site Andrew Collins (where are your votes?). The third book in his autobiographical triology came out yesterday and if "That's Me In The Corner" is anything like the first two books ("Where Did It All Go Right" and "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now") it'll be a bloody good read. Andrew's blog is also a good read and highly recommended.

You can also read some "deleted scenes" at the excellent TV Cream site.

29 Apr 07 - Later...

Those Horsey crowd are quite pleasant when you get to know them. They say please and thank you and ask to leave the table. This'll be the last post until Friday as I'm off to seek solace in a log cabin for a few days as the big 4-0 approaches. Maybe I should get a tattoo or shall I just start wearing grey and brown now?

I'd go and "find myself" but that'd be too easy. When I go sunbathing Greenpeace chuck buckets of water on me. I'm here all week, except Monday to Friday.

28 Apr 07 - New Chart

The new charts are up on the Charts and Stats page so go feast your eyes. We expanded the Top 60 to a Top 75, although the Worst chart will remain a Top 10.

Needs must, the devil drives. The Cat is on holiday from Monday for a few days. He is "celebrating" turning 40 but going to a log cabin, daubing himself with creosote and dancing naked in the woods. If you should see him, pay no mind, he's best left alone.

27 Apr 07 - Pat Nevin's Haircut

Pat Nevin will be DJing at the launch night of Tigerfest, which hosts many gigs in Fife and Edinburgh during the month of May. More details on all the gigs are available at Tigerfest's MySpace site. Bands playing include King Creosote, Nouvelle Vague, Emma Pollock, BMX Bandits, Camera Obscura, Tom Hingley, The Draymin and Drive By Argument.

27 Apr 07 - Extraordinary Meeting Minutes

Here are the minutes of the Second Jock 'n' Roll Extraordinary General Meeting:

Attendees:

Dave - Statsmeister
The Cat - Webmeister

Apologies:

The Cat, for forgetting the Wagon Wheels

1. The main item on the agenda was to decide on the eligibility of Horse, the band, and Horse, the solo artist in the current Jock 'n' Roll Album Poll. After some humming and hahing, a bit of pontification and some general pondering, it was agreed that the Horse-with-band releases pre-1996 would be classed as separate from the Horse-nah-mates post-1996 and that voters would be allowed to pick one album from each period.

It was also decided to employ a bouncer on the Hame page to ensure that Malibu-sozzled Horse fans didn't kick our asses following the Fatwa issued upon us on the Message Board of www.randan.org.

2. The second item on the agenda was a request from Dave to have time off to visit his wife and family. Dave was asked to leave the room while a vote was taken. The motion was denied, although it was agreed to allow him an extra biscuit with his cocoa.

3. A discussion on whether the Sensational Alex Harvey Band fans had taken too many drugs during the heyday of their hero and as a result were unable to work out the rules of the poll was adjourned to the next meeting.

Any Other Incompetent Business:

4. It was agreed that the Del Amitri fans didn't like us but it was decided that we didn't care so nyah nyah nyah.

Date of Next Meeting:

Saturday 12 May at Chez Cat, Dunfermline

26 Apr 07 - Pellow Talk

This morning The Cat couldn't have been more miserable if he'd been reincarnated as a bulldog licking piss of a nettle. But life goes on and business at Jock 'n' Roll Towers is brisker than Linford Christie with a supersonic jet up his jacksie. We've now shot into the Top 50 Scottish websites at firstfoot.com, albeit at number 49 - look out "Arthur's Seat" blog, we're on your tail. Keep those votes coming but PLEASE READ THE RULES!!

The industry-only midweek Jock 'n' Roll charts have arrived and due to the sheer volume of votes the Best Scottish Album list has been expanded to a mighty Top 75. Will "Psychocandy" still be number 1? Will the mobilisation of the Wets fans be enough to get Marti Pellow's "Smile" into the chart? Will Hibs ever win the Scottish Cup? The answers to most of these questions will be revealed on Saturday morning.

25 Apr 07 - Junior Jock 'n' Roll!!

24 Apr 07 - 106 and counting

The Cat and Dave are sad. We need a hug. Still, it could be worse, we could've paid £26.50 (after pointless fees) for tickets to see The Skids. Outrageous.

Following in the footsteps of Wet Wet Wet and Horse, fans of both The Blue Nile and The Sensational Alex Harvey Band are mobilising in an attempt to get their favourites into our chart. And why not? Just a pity some of the SAHB fans haven't read the rules! It's not hard, it's not...oh, you know it by now!

23 Apr 07 - The Absolute Glen

The Skids will play two (!) one-off headline gigs at The Glen Pavillion, Dunfermline on Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th July 2007 (I believe only one of them has been advertised so far). £22 a ticket seems rather steep though, especially as the Wedding Present's "George Best" 20th anniversary tour is only £15. You pays your money, you takes your choice. The Cat will probably be able to hear the gig from his house!

22 Apr 07 - I Could Be Happy

The Cat is very grumpy today. Just leave him be and he'll come round.

21 Apr 07 - Another Saturday Night

Well, the chart is up and my, my, what a change. Bis, Aberfeldy, the Incredible String Band, Sons and Daughters and Belle and Sebastian (they have another three in the Top 60) drop out to make way for 15 new entries in an expanded chart. It's good to see so many different artists in there and long may it continue.

The Orchids, who just missed out on this week's Top 60, have a gig in Glasgow on Saturday 26 May (No doubt they'll be hoping to use it as an excuse to celebrate a Celtic cup win!). The gig is at Maggie May's, 60 Trongate, Glasgow G1 5EP and will be their first hometown gig in over a decade. The Cat will certainly be in attendance so come and say hello. And it's only a fiver to get in so get along and support this criminally underrated band.

By the way, The Orchids are the latest British band to feature on a US TV programme. You can hear their "Another Saturday Night" (from new album "Good To Be A Stranger" on Falcon Beach, a US teen drama at http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=TheOrchids. Enjoy.

Oh, and I musn't forget a wee pat on the back to each and every one of you as we've reached 20,000 hits.

20 Apr 07 - Perfect...Almost

Celebrity pop stars votes are like buses (no, not stinkin' of piss), you wait ages for one and then two come along at the same time. Following on from James Hackett, the one, the only (unless there's someone else with exactly the same name) Eddi Reader has cast her votes. The one-time chanteuse with (ineligible) Fairground Attraction has, as she is entitled, voted for one of her own albums and one of her brother Franks. Mind you what a brou-ha-ha! If she changed her mind once, she changed it, well, three times. She's crashed out with a bottle of Campari now so we won't be hearing from her again until the morning.

Regular viewers will know what a palaver we had explaining the rules to those flouncy ethereal types in the Cocteau Twins camp. Well, they can rest easy this year as the Horse fans are after your crown! Of course, we're only teasing but boy are they hard work. Dave and I are going to have to call an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Jock 'n' Roll Board to determine whether Horse's career can properly be divided into "with a band" and "solo". What next, I ask, Horse the Barber Shop Quartet?

By the way, if anyone from FOPP in Rose Street in Edinburgh is reading this can I ask you why Marillion are in your (woefully small) Scottish section. The Proclaimers, yes, those awfully nice MacDonald Brothers, fair enough, but Marillion? NOOOOOOO!!!!

While I was in FOPP (other record shops are available and if any of you would like to send us CDs to give away in competitions.....), I purchased John Martyn's "Solid Air". Why? Well, people with fabulous taste in other records have been voting for it and I thought it was rather rude of me not to have a copy. And do you know what? It's really rather good. It only costs a blue drinking voucher, while stocks last.

18 Apr 07 - Thaumaturgy

Our first pop star votes (that we know of) have come in to Jock 'n' Roll HQ. James Hackett, vox humana for The Orchids, has waxed lyrical on his 10 favourite Jock 'n' Roll albums. What are they? Well, we don't kiss and tell here but James' selections may well make him a future Featured Voter. By the way, just like the Singles poll, he didn't vote for his own band, which he was entitled to do. I, however, did. Vote for his band, that is, not mine (I don't have one...I can't play an instrument...it's a sad tale).

17 Apr 07 - Linking About You Baby

The Cat has had a busy night of adding more Artists to the Artists pages and Links to the aptly named Links pages. If your band or your favourite band/artist isn't there then let us, we're not telepathic you know. Must mention one particular link and thats to Kinema Gigz, which celebrates the life and times of The Kinema Ballroom in Dunfermline. You don't have to be from Dunfermline to appreciate the site and its subject matter, a music venue with a varied and entertaining past.

The votes continue to pour in but none of our celebrity friends had voted yet. They're probably all opening new Tescos (other supermarkets are available...but not for much longer) or going to movie premieres. Or maybe they're taking their time to ensure that their favourite 10 Albums are just right. We suspect the latter.

16 Apr 07 - Hate

Well, what a gorgeous weekend that was in The Cat's little corner of Caledonia. The Cat is officially now middle-aged as he visited Homebase and had a BBQ - just shoot me now.

Too many of you are still being too polite and not picking a Worst Scottish Album. Don't give us that "I don't buy crap albums" nonsense. Exercise your democratic right to give one album some vitriolic bile and then tell us what it is. The funnier/angrier your hatred the more chance it'll feature on the Memories page.

14 Apr 07 - Top of the Pops

The first chart, a Top 50 no less, is now up on the Charts page. And very interesting reading it is too. I certainly think that the Albums poll will be hotly contested over the coming months. Can we ask that you make sure you vote for a specific Worst Album please? Don't be polite, don't be nice, get stuck into a record that really gets on your Earthas.

As well as the first Top 50, we've added some more Memories and a new Featured Voter (is it you?). Both The Cat and Dave's votes are up on the Authors page.

13 Apr 07 - Jock 'n' Roll on tour

Now, we don't want to say too much at the moment (just enough to tease you), but we're in the early stages of planning a Jock 'n' Roll night in Edinburgh. Nothing fancy mind, just Dave and I and some quality choons. We're also planning a Jock 'n' Roll Quiz Night. Let us know on the Discussion Forum if this is something you might be interested in.

11 Apr 07 - Mellow My Madness

The Cat, as is his want, likes doing competitions (and quiz shows, but that's a very different story) and today he was fortunate enough to win a rather appropriate Jock 'n' Roll-esque CD from Radio Scotland. Celtic Soulster Jackie Leven's latest album "Oh What A Blow That Phantom Dealt Me!" is out now on Cooking Vinyl. Jackie Leven was frontman of Doll By Doll, a band described as "blending LSD visions, folk, blues, celtic, psychedelic and punk". Something for all the family, I'm sure you'll agree. I'll let you know what I think when I give it a listen.

10 Apr 07 - Our Favourite Shop?

The Cat is in a better mood today. The votes continue to pile in and the first chart will definitely be up this weekend coming. It'll be a Top 50 and should be very interesting indeed. Statmeister Dave tells me that it has changed hands several times. The lead, that is!

On the Discussion Forum, you can tell everyone about your favourite record shop, what you think of The View or chat about the reissue of Scars' "Author Author" album. You can also publicise your event, band, single, website, divorce etc.

9 Apr 07 - The Backlash Begins (Again!)

One of the best pieces of advice I was ever given was "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all". It just a pity that a minority of fans of one particular band don't heed that advice. Our poll (and website), which we've put an awful lot of effort into, is something we enjoy doing and we know that many of you out there enjoy too. However, there are individuals that spend far too much time deriding our efforts and spreading negativity about our poll. I won't name the fans of this band or the band itself as I'd hate to tar them all with the same brush but if they have a problem with us I suggest they come over to our Discussion Forum and tell us exactly what your problem is. Good day.

8 Apr 07 - Felicitations

Dave and The Cat are delaying the first chart of the Album poll until next weekend as they're too busy dressing up in bunny outfits and delivering Jock 'n' Roll Easter Eggs to all the pop kids who have been good.

The eggs have a special Jock 'n' Roll theme:
The Proclaimers Egg - have one, get another free.
The Lloyd Cole Egg - it's got a perfect skin.
The Jesus and Mary Chain Egg - it tastes just like honey.
The Travis Egg - comes with a free umbrella.

Happy Easter to all our Jock 'n' Roll friends around the world.

6 Apr 07 - Andrew Banner-man

Another busy day of counting votes at JnR HQ. We'd like to thank Andrew for his help in producing a banner to put on our entry at the First Foot website. We're currently in their Top 100 website chart at number 51 (although I'm confused with how they calculate their statistics) but we never had a dinky little banner. Now we do!

5 Apr 07 - Tartan Day Party

http://www.tartanarmynyc.com/td2007.php#

Our fame spreads far and wide as this message shows:

"The 5th Annual NYC TA Tartan Day Party - Saturday, April 14, 8pm

This is the place to be on the Saturday night. It'll all get going about 8 and last all night (well, until 4am).

We'll have a Scottish DJ playing the best music from Scotland, including a lot of selections from the Top 75 Scottish Singles of all time (as voted for at jocknroll.co.uk). If we're feeling mischevious, there may also be some tunes from the Top 20 Worst Tunes (especially if we can find those old Krankies and Kelly Marie 45's).

As usual, we'll try and have some Irn Bru on hand for the homesick and the banter will be quality, for sure, although what kind of quality is debatable.

Lucky Jack's (downstairs lounge)
126 Allen Street OR 129 Orchard Street
(Between Rivington and Delancey)
NEW YORK
map
Saturday, April 14th, 8pm - 4am
FREE ENTRY
21+"

So if you're in New York on Saturday 14th April make sure you get dancing shoes on and head to Lucky Jack's. Dave and I hope you all have a great time, although we're still waiting on our all-expenses paid invitation! We'd have DJ'd for brussel sprout!

5 Apr 07 - When The Vote Comes In

The votes are flooding in and Dave's getting himself all hot and bothered. In fact, he's dizzy and restless. We're still awaiting our first celebrity vote but it's only a matter of time. It's a long weekend for the Jock 'n' Roll team but we'll be around to water the plants and feed the goldfish, Fran and Anna. Happy Easter to one and all.

4 Apr 07 - A Tonkin Good Laugh

A big thanks to Pete Tonkin for making us laugh with his votes (I don't think he likes The Fratellis). Also, a hearty pat on the back to that big deftie Grant Stott (you know, the young Arthur Montford) for giving the poll and website a good plug on his Forth One show this morning.

We thought it might be a couple of weeks before we got the first Jock n Roll Album chart up but the votes are coming in at such a rate that we should be able to have a Top 40 by Sunday. Dave's very excited by all this.

3 Apr 07 - And They're Off...

It's 20 past midnight and the images are now all up. Don't ask me how I managed it but I did and that's what counts. Special thanks need to go to Al, Alan from the Adobe Dreamweaver forum and "The Fat Controller" from the Web User forums for their efforts in helping us get the site where it is today. The images on the Introduction page are still a bit temperamental but we'll work on that.

Some bands are featured several times in the sleeves we've used, mainly because they have more well-known albums. If there's a sleeve you'd like us to put up then let us know and we'll do what we can. I'm off to sit in a darkened room and have a wee cry.

I almost forgot. We haven't even publicised the poll yet but we've had our first votes (Dave's doesn't count because he's management). If I had a hat, I'd take it off to Jon Gavienas from Cumnock in Ayshire for being quick off the mark. Jon's votes are a perfect example of our rule changes, in that we'll no longer be e-mailing people back to tell them of ineligible votes. As long as at least 5 of your choices are eligible we'll count them. So no This Mortal Coil (Confucious, he say "One Cocteaus-dominated 45 does not a Jockanese album make"), or Wet Wet Wet's Greatest Hits as Worst Album. No Greatest Hits are allowed in either category.

2 Apr 07

Our very Man of Stats, Dave, is the first Featured Voter as our Album Poll gets up and running. If you think you can do better then by all means let us know your Top 10 Scottish Albums, your Worst Scottish Album (one will do) and any opinions you wish to share with the world. Preferably about your Jock'n'Roll album choices and not the Middle East Crisis, although we share your concerns.

30 Mar 07

Our condolences go to the family, friends and fans of Charles "Cha" Burns, guitarist with The Silencers. He passed away this week at his home in Prestayn after a long battle with cancer.

23 Mar 07

Yes, I know it's been a while but we've got families and responsibilities you know. The Singles poll has finished and we'll dedicate a whole page just to the results, accompanied by various stats, lists and other things than men of a certain age enjoy pouring over. What have you missed? Dave has been all over the UK again doing whatever it is he actually does (I don't ask, I find it's for the best) and The Cat has been learning to drive ("Honest, the blue recycling bin walked right out in front of me, officer"), taken part in another game show (more details when it is broadcast) and had another midlife crisis as the big 4 0 approaches.

Apparently there was a piece about the site in Product magazine but we've been unable to track it down (even the publishers don't have a spare copy) so if anyone has a copy they'd like to donate we'd be ever so grateful.

No idea as to how we're doing in the Scottish Website chart as we've been lying low recently. I'll check and get back to you. I'm sure you're all on tenterhooks, whatever they are. (Stop Press: we're making that all important number 54 spot our own, with almost 14000 hits).

16 Feb 07

We’ve made a decision. No we’re not leaving the country, as much as certain Idlewild and Del Amitri fans would like us to, we’re closing the Singles poll from 28 February. Then, after a break for a cup of tea and some garibaldis, we’ll be back to begin the search for The Great Jock ‘n’ Roll Album. The album poll won’t be so easy to predict, I feel, and that makes it all the more exciting.

5 Feb 07

Apologies for the chart problems over the past two weeks. This was due to reasons too uninteresting to share. We’re still preparing the new site (there just aren’t enough hours in the day) and we’re hoping to launch the Album equivalent of our poll very soon. Some of you will probably need to start thinking about it now. We felt that Mike McConnell’s comments were so good that we’ve left him up as Featured Voter for the moment.

25 Jan 07

Top selling Scottish author and occasional TV football pundit Christopher Brookmyre popped his head round the door of Jock ‘n’ Roll HQ and handed us a blood-stained note with his votes for the Great Jock ‘n’ Roll Single. Before we could thank him he disappeared in a puff of smoke! Funny lot, those crime writers. We’ve stalled at 62nd in the top Scottish websites chart but we’re not far off 12,000 hits.

21 Jan 07

A week between blog entries, I’m slipping. For fans of The Orchids I’m please to announce a gig at the Lumiere in London on 2 March. They’re new album “Good To Be A Stranger” is released on 26 February. There may be a launch party type gig in Glasgow around that time too but that is just pure unadulterated speculation on my part in the vain hope that it happens and I don’t have to go south of the border! And Giselle, if you’re reading this, Mr Hackett actually voted for the song you kindly referred on our Memories page as the Scottish “We Built This City”!!

14 Jan 07

The first new charts of the year are here and unlike the “real” charts, which appear to be allowing anything and everything in it irrespective of availability as a physical piece of merchandise, our only rule is that acts voted for will have been brought up on a diet of McCowan’s Highland Toffee, Desperate Dan bars and Irn-Bru.

12 Jan 07

Paint A Volga Picture. So Morrissey is rumoured to be thinking about contributing to the UK’s Eurovision effort. I say good on him but you can voice your opinion on the Discussion Forum. This thread comes with a free money-back guaranteed poll, “Should Morrissey Do Eurovision?” The decision…(dramatic pause)... is yours.

11 Jan 07

Isn’t this year dragging? The Cat and Dave have been dragged back to normality kicking and screaming. Our new site isn’t up yet because our techy whiz hasn’t shown us how to!! The first chart of the new year will be on Sunday. Stay tuned for more Jock ‘n’ Roll.

1 Jan 2007

Happy New Year...now get to your beds. We’ve ended the year at 62nd in the Top 75 Scottish website with over 10,800 hits. God bless each and every one of you.

5 Jun - Back For Good

What a couple of weeks we've had at Jock 'n' Roll HQ. Firstly, my trusty old MESH PC died a death (okay, it was more of a euthanasia type arrangement whereby I put it out of its misery), then the new PC arrived, only for it to be as compatible with my old modem as Harold Shipman was to health care.

And thenm just to compound matters even further the new Home Hub from BT wasn't delivered on the day they promised - I do so enjoy phoning the Indian Sub-Continent to speak to BRITISH Telecom.

I missed the chance to brag about how good The Orchids were at Maggie May's on the 26th of May, even if it didn't mean leaving the club early for a nightbus from Glasgow to Fife, which isn't a trip I want to repeat in a hurry.

Hopefully that'll a thing of the past soon as The Cat has now passed his Theory Test and will be mobile before you know it! I'll issue warnings when I'll be on the streets - it's for the best.

20 May - Music Has The Right To Children

What a busy weekend and no mistake. "Sunshine on Leith", the musical, on Saturday night (they really should run courses for people who can't read their own tickets, find their own seats or turn up on time - end of rant) followed by "Baby Rave" at The Assembly Rooms this morning, an event that no self-respecting under-5 would want to miss (although I think the adults had just as much fun. There was even a chill out room).

The Cat is currently reading the third in Andrew Collins' biographical trilogy "That's Me In The Corner" and AC recalls his interview with James Brown (no, a different one) at the NME when he was asked "What was the last LP you bought?" to which Andrew replied "Surfer Rosa" by The Pixies. The truth, as Andrew readily admits, was rather less credible - "Raintown" by Deacon Blue. Remember kids, lying at job interviews is neither big nor clever, unless it's for a call centre job that you only went for to keep the DSS, or whatever they're called these days, off your back. Look what happened to Andrew.

18 May - Sorted for Es and Fizz

Turns out to be a false alarm on the Sunday Herald front but Peter Ross hopes to return to the subject of the white boy weegie soul of the late 80s at a future date. He knows where we stand on it.

The charts may be a bit late this weekend as The Cat is having another driving lesson (you have been warned), off to see "Sunshine on Leith" (the musical not the meteorological phenomenon) on Saturday night and then off to peddle some Es and jellies at the Baby Rave at the Assembly Rooms on Sunday morning. Make some noise, got any lego? Sorted.

I almost forget to mention our milestone at passing 25000 hits, which is just incredible, and we're up to 46 in the Scottish website chart.

On a non-Jock'n'Roll related matter, if you wondered why Michael Moore (Fahrenheit 9/11 and Bowling for Columbine) has been so quiet lately then you can see his recent newsletter on the Discussion Forum to get the lowdown.

16 May - Lost Weekend

The Cat has finally recovered from a drink and birthday cake induced stupor that began on Saturday and subsided on Monday. My 21st (plus VAT, a lot of VAT) birthday party was combined with a celebration of the Eurovision Song Contest. I know it has been mooted before by the SNP but I wonder when Scotland will get it's own entry, after all it's the English the Europeans really hate. Even Israel are more popular than Royaume Uni.

Dave and The Cat may well feature in the Sunday Herald this weekend. Peter Ross (you know, Mrs Ross's wee laddie) is sitting in for Tom Shields and will be using his column to enquire why the white boy Glasgow soul of the late 80s in so reviled around these shores. Don't even get me started!

Did any of you see The Cat on the telly last night ("Take It Or Leave It" on Challenge)? No, your eyes weren't deceiving you, he is really does look like a stunt double for Barbapapa. I know TV cameras put weight on you but four stone is ridiculous. He was last seen gorging on funsize pork sausages and calling for the head of Richard Arnold.

11 May - The Only Fun In Town

I almost forgot to mention that those of you who are lucky enough to catch Nouvelle Vague (supported by The BMX Bandits and The AMs) next Saturday at The Carnegie Hall as part of Tigerfest will witness an appearance by Paul Haig, who will be joining the headliners on stage for a version of "Sorry for Laughing". Unfortunately, you'll also witness the appearance of one Dominic Diamond as part of The AMs!

It's kinda funny (see what I did there) because I'll miss all that excitement as Mrs Cat and I are off to see "Sunshine on Leith" at the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh, where I witnessed a fabulous show by Ray Davies on Monday night.

11 May - Not So OK Computer

Apologies for the lack of blog entries of late but Dave has been swanning about the British Isles and I've been sobbing like a big jessie at the imminent death of my computer.

As a result, there will be no charts this week as we make the inevitable funeral arrangements for my Mesh computer. We'll need vol-au-vents, mini quiches and a prawn ring at the very least.

12 Jul - Edwyn's Home Again

Good news from the uncrowned king of Jock n Roll as Sir Edwyn of Collins has announced that he'll be releasing a single in the autumn. "You'll Never Know (My Love)" is due out a week before a new album entitled "Home Again". The album, his first for five years, is scheduled for release on 17 September.

The full tracklisting of the album is: One Is A Lonely Number, Home Again, You'll Never Know, 7th Son, Leviathan, In Your Heart, Superstar Talking Blues, Liberteenage Rag, A Heavy Sigh, Written In Stone, One Track Mind and Then I Crie. Some of these tracks are previewed on Edwyn's MySpace site. There's also a new Edwyn Collins forum on his revamped website at www.edwyncollins.com.

It's great to have you back Edwyn.

9 Jul - Ya Choob

Sometimes I wish I knew what I was doing but then I think "Where's the danger?" It's taken a few days but the first of the site's many changes is now evident as the old How To Vote page (the one the Cocteau Twins' fans couldn't understand) has miraculously turned into our new "Ya Choob" page.

Okay, so the name isn't entirely original but it was the most Scottish name we could think of for our Video page. If there's anything you'd like to see then let us know and we'll put it up.

4 Jul - Keep On Keepin' On

As mentioned on the Hame page, the Album Poll has been brought to a premature end.

The Album Poll has been beset by problems but sometimes there are more important things than a dumb Album Poll and recent personal events have put a lot of things into perspective.

Over the next few months The Cat will be moving the furniture around on the site and refreshing things. The site will revert to more of a Scottish Music Resource with links to as many bands/artists as we can squeeze in, as well as an all-new Trivia page. I've also an idea to add links to Scottish artists on you Tube but that'll need to be looked into - don't want to tread on any toes.

So bear with us over the summer (what summer?) and we'll back before you can say Yves Makabu-Ma-Makalambay (Hibs' new goalkeeper).

29 Jun - RIP Fopp

A sad day indeed for music lovers the length and breadth of britain as Fopp closes it's door. The message on their website, or what's left of it, says quite simple:

"It is with great regret that we announce the closure of Fopp.

Our store chain is profitable, well regarded and loved by our loyal customers and staff. However we have failed to gain the necessary support from major stakeholders, suppliers and their credit insurers to generate sufficient working capital to run our expanding business.

We would like to thank staff and customers for their support over the past 25 years.

Any outstanding website orders have now been cancelled and will not be fulfilled or charged."

I may know where I was when Kennedy was shot* but I'll always remember that the last purchase I made from the Fopp in Rose Street was "Bus 174" on DVD.

(*Actually I wasn't even born!)

Reports suggest that Virgin tried to save Fopp and there's already a Save Fopp MySpace site.

Good luck to everyone involved with the campaign.

26 Jun - The New Chart's Up...At Last

Sincere from-the-heart-of-my-bottom apologies for the delay in the new chart. We've been beset by technical problems, business trips and family holidays. Still, it's here now and that's what matters.

Thanks to Johnny Blue for the Gaelheart "Big Bahookie" CD, which we'll give a good listen to at the next Jock 'n' Roll board meeting. If anyone else has CDs they'd like us to review then get in touch and we'll give you an address to send them too. We're also partial to chocolate Hob Nobs.

19 Jun - Selfish Travis Fans Wanted

From Travis' Fran Healy:

"Random Acts Of Selfishness

Hello all,

This is your friendly neighbourhood Fran writing from a log cabin in Bergen.

I would like to ask you all for a favour. If you would be so kind, please would you film or photograph or write about a random act of selfishness you have witnessed or have even committed yourself and post it to:

selfishjean1@gmail.com

It will all make sense in a week or so. We need as many filmed acts of selfishness as poss. Pics too. Trust us. Report or confess.

RULES
Films should be no longer than 15 seconds give or take a few seconds.
Photographs should be smallish say up to 300k
A written statement shouldn't be over 100 words

NOTE
No real names will be used. The best of these will be displayed in an exciting way in the near future.

To give you an example check here :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIY9RRoMSx4
or
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UO5cUaichmY
or
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sSNZK3Ee68

If you film a random act then send the raw footage and we'll do the rest.

Thanks,
Fran"

Normally I wouldn't publicise stuff like this but I have to confess to being interested in the results.

Meanwhile, Miles Mendoza has once again kindly selected www.jocknroll.co.uk as his Website of the Day on Steve Wright's Radio 2 Afternoon Show (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/wright/wotd.shtml). Our humble little site was due to be featured yesterday but was held over until today.

The show is available on Listen Again (see above link, select Tuesday on right hand side) and the Website of the Day feature is 2 hours and 44 minutes into the 3 hour show, after Steve Miller Band's "Abracadabra". Thanks Miles for the plug.

18 Jun - No Show for No Shows

From the organisers of Gig in the Glen:

"Who'd have thought that the middle of June would see weather worse than November?

For the record, Welder, myself and the rest of the team froze our tits off to make sure SOME kind of GITG went ahead (despite some of the most negative atitude I've ever seen)!

Anyway:-

To all of you who turned out to watch the gig - Big thanks and respect!! You're brilliant!!

To all of you who didn't - Don't blame you frankly...

To all the bands who turned up and did play on the Main Stage and Tower House Stage - You guys are AWESOME!!!!

To Jack Butler who came through from Stirling and time was too tight to get you on - Guys, I love you, won't forget your dedication and WILL get you back on the stage in the future!

To all the bands who didn't turn up as arranged - your loss! I don't forget these things!

To anyone who believed the bullshit that some assholes were spreading around about the gig being cancelled - See, you shouldn't believe bullshit.

Until next time, take care and thank you all for your support.

N"

I can understand punters not turning up on a shitty day but some of the bands aswell - shame on you. Well done to all the organisers, the bands who did play and the punters who braved the elements.

16 Jun - Calling All The Brollies

Well, it's the Gig In The Glen in Dunfermline today and good luck to anyone who is going because the weather is terrible. I'm not saying it's cold but there's three brass monkeys outside crying their eyes out. It might even be vest weather. It Bites will headline one of three stages hosting a total of 36 bands and all for the princely sum of nowt, nada, zilch. Dig out your wellies and get only to support the event.

I've only just found out that our website was Website of the Week on Steve Wright's Radio 2 show back in February (http://www.websiteoftheday.info/2007/02/the_great_jock_.html). That was during the Singles poll and hopefully they'll give the Album poll a plug too.

Talking of the Album poll, due to the numerous technical problems of late and some voter apathy voting has slowed right down and as a result we've decided the Album poll will close on 31 July 2007. So if you haven't voted send them to us at the usual e-mail address.

13 Jun - So Tough

Chemikal Underground are thanking long-time mailing list subscribers with a FREE download from their 100th release, Mother and the Addicts' "Science Fiction Illustrated". The track concerned "So Tough" is really rather good and can be downloaded from http://www.chemikal.co.uk/mata.

The first single 'proper' from the album will be a double A-side 7" single (remember them?) featuring edits of "Watch The Lines" and "Are Others" and should be available from Aug 6th (one week before the album). The Chemikal Underground mailing list is nothing less than interesting and it's worthwhile subscribing to as they promise "more free stuff" aswell a 'mini-site' in support of "Science Fiction Illustrated".

Mother and the Addicts will be playing live in support of the album so keep your eyes and ears peeled. Well, just your eyes.

8 Jun - A Touch of Tartan

Grant Stott's newly extended (and rather excellent) radio show on Forth One now has a feature called "A Touch of Tartan" and around 1230 each day he plays a Scottish record. Grant and I have had a running battle on the issue of what makes an artist Scottish (okay, it's more of a friendly joust with inflatable lances - ooh, very homoerotic!). One day he almost played Fairground Attraction (but relented) and this week he played The Shamen!

Sure, when they started they were a fabulously underrated psychedelic-indie band from the north of this fair country but let's face it since about 1988 they've been more a pop-dance act and no more Scottish than Jimmy Hill. I wouldn't have felt so aggrieved at Grant playing a Shamen record if it wasn't for the fact that he chose Ebebloodynezer Goode, from the non-Scottish era of the band. C'mon Grant sort it out. I know it's "your baw...your rules" but gies a break.

If you want to request a Scottish record to be played during the Touch of Tartan feature you can e-mail Mr Stott at grant@forthone.com from about 1130. Just don't ask for Marillion, Ultravox or AC/DC!

3 Oct - The Orchids (Update)

The Orchids gig will be at the Accies Club, Helensburgh Drive, Jordanhill, Glasgow this friday at 8pm.

Sadly domestic arrangements mean that The Cat and Dave won't be there in person, but we'll be indie shuffling in spirit.

3 Oct - A Touch of Tartan (Reminder)

Every day at around 1235 Grant Stott plays a wee "Touch of Tartan" on his Forth One show. Feel free to e-mail your choices to grant@forthone.com, just don't ask for Deacon Blue, Wet Wet Wet or Del Amitri because they've been played to death.

I made my own suggestion of playing "Are You Ready To be Heartbroken" by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions one day and following it the next with "Lloyd, I'm Ready To be Heartbroken" by Camera Obscura. What a clever cookie I am.

26 Aug - The Orchids

The Orchids have announced another Glasgow gig. The gig, at a venue to be confirmed, will be on Friday 5th October. I'll post more details when I get them and I expect to see you all there.

It just occurred to me, aren't orchestras just massive tribute bands? All they do is bloody cover versions. And another thing, just how do you decide you want to be a pole vaulter?

29 Jul - Life With The Proclaimers

After the great news about the new Edwyn releases comes more good new for Jock 'n' Rollers everywhere as The Proclaimers release a new single and album soon.

The single "Life With You", released on 27 August precedes the album of the same name which is released the following week. Let's hope it gives them the national acclaim they deserve instead of still, rather boringly, being pigeonholed into the "novelty" category.

19 Jul - The Jock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame

A big "hiya" out to Dave "Cover" Connor who has publicised our site on a very regular basis on his Tay FM drivetime show and on his Forth One shows when covering for holidaying colleagues or "sicknotes"! Dave is now an honorary "Friend of Jock 'n' Roll". Arise Sir Dave.

12 Jul - Lager Lovelies Anyone?

There are times when you come across a website that you have to tell people about and whilst it's not really musical I urge you all to visit a website dedicated to Tennents Lager cans and the "lovelies" who adorned them. The website, www.cannyscot.com, is a goldmine of information.

For me, it was always a toss-up between Erica and Penny. Who was your favourite?
