Ah, stick yer hanging chads up yer jacksie! This is the poll that matters.

By far the best ever turnout in Jock 'n' Roll history. The top spot changed places a few times over the course of this week but come today the Jesus and Mary Chain have retaken the number 1 place and "hats" has overtaken "A Walk Across the rooftops" as the best Blue Nile album.

So who's had a worse week than Sir Alex Ferguson? Well, having a successful musical isn't doing much for the reid brothers (speccy Fife department rather than shaggy weegie division) and two of the three Skids albums have dropped down he chart. No wonder, have you seen the price of those reunion gig tickets?

So apart from Alex Salmond, who has had a good week? Well, James Grant has FOUR albums featuring him going up the chart whilst Annie Lennox has this week's highest climber. Dick Gaughan rallies nicely too and it's good to see rising young upstarts The View, a band young enough to be Dick's grandkids, making their chart debut.

But those Malibu-soaked, polite-but-firm, tactically voting, lovely people over at Randan have got Horse into the Top 20 where she belongs AND secured a new entry for "Red Haired Girl" at number 63. But they're not by the same artist, oh no. Why? look, we're not going there again as we've had the offer of some biccies for our next meeting from them. Oh, and they may want to know that "Hindsight" is our number 76 this week, "bubbling under", as they say in the biz.

And finally raise your glasses and join me in wishing The Cat, our genial host and Mr Jock 'n' Roll, a happy birthday. Now he's old. At least he's got an excuse for being a ....
