Since the year is almost at an end, what were the best Scottish albums of 2007?
Out of 45 or so albums I picked up this year (I'm old school, I buy my music out of shops) eight of them were Scottish bands.
1. King Creosote - 'Bombshell' long time fan of KC and this is probably his best album yet.
2. Edwyn Collins - 'Home Again' as a Postcard fanatic, this won't be much of a surprise, a middle ranking Edwyn album which means better than most!
3. 1990s - 'Cookies'I think I'm right in saying this is their debut, if so, best Scottish debut of 07'
4. Alasdair Roberts - 'The Amber Gatherers' there has been an excess of crappy phoney folk recently so its nice to hear someone put out an folk album that is a keeper
5. The Hedrons - 'Another One Won't Hurt Us' i was a little disappointed by this one, when I hear the phrase 'all female punk band' then I think of the brilliance of The Slits. not anywhere near that good but ok
6. The Royal We - 'The Royal We' nice cover of 'Wicked Game' but their own materials falls a little short
7. Butcher Boy - 'Profit In Your Poetry' this came highly recommended but I found that it was a little anaemic
8. Malcom Middleton - 'A Brighter Beat' I never really got into Arab Strap and likewise I've never really got into Malcolm
I have The Orchids and Twilight Sad on order.
Anything else I should have listened to this year? |
